America depends on the network of more than 168,000 miles of liquid pipelines to safely and efficiently move energy and raw materials to fuel our nation’s economic engine. Pipelines are a vital part of our country’s infrastructure and have been quietly serving the nation for decades. Our transportation system—cars, delivery trucks, airplanes, trains, and more —could not run without pipelines transporting fuel from producing areas to refineries, and from refineries to distribution points. Pipelines are the safest, most reliable, economical and environmentally favorable way to transport oil and petroleum products and other energy liquids and chemicals throughout the U.S.
Established in 1947, AOPL is a nonprofit organization whose membership is comprised of owners and operators of liquid pipelines. AOPL members carry nearly 85% of the crude oil and refined petroleum products moved by pipelines in the United States.
Members are served by AOPL’s Washington, D.C. staff, which has a wide range of experience in government, law, regulation, and business. AOPL and its staff are committed to working on behalf of its members for successful and positive outcomes to challenges faced by the pipeline industry.
